What is sarcoidosis?

Multi-system granulomatous disorder

What is the histology of sarcoidosis?

Non-caseating granulomas

What are pulmonary symptoms of sarcoidosis?

Bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy
Lung fibrosis

Dry cough
Progessive dyspnoea
Chest pain

What are non pulmonary manifestations of sarcoidosis?

Lymphadenopathy
Hepatomegaly
Splenomegaly
Uveitis
Conjuctivitis
Erythema nodosum

What are investigations for suspected sarcoidosis?

Bloods
- FBC
- U+Es
- calcium
- CRP

ECG
CXR
Lung function tests
Lung biopsy

What do CXRs show in sarcoidosis?

Stage 0 = normal
Stage 1 = Bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy
Stage 2 = BHL + peripheral pulmonary infilrates
Stage 3 = peripheral pulmonary infiltrates
Stage 4 = progressive pulmonary fibrosis

How is sarcoidosis managed?

Acutely = rest + NSAIDs
