SCI Flashcards
(21 cards)
Hemicord
Ipsilat loss of vib and position sense below lesion.
At level of lesion: loss of position sense.
Contralateral loss of pain and temp, and motor below lesion.
Central Cord
Damage ventral commissure - lose pain and temp.
Cape like distributions in cervical lesions.
Posterior Cord
Loss of vibration and position sense.
Anterior Cord
Loss of pain, temp, and motor.
Ambulation outcome: C8 and higher
Ambulation not feasible
Ambulation outcome: T1-9
ambulation for exercise with KAFOs with lock knees
Ambulation outcome: T10-12, L1-3
independent functional ambulation within home and short community distances. High energy use.
Ambulation outcome: L4
Fully innervated quad, may need AFO.
Ambulation outcome: L5, S1, S2
Independent community ambulation
Functional outcomes: C1-4
Total A, power WC
Functional outcomes: C5
Some A for bed mobility, total A for transfers
Functional outcomes C6
Some A with bed mobility and level transfers. Independent with WC indoors, independent power WC
Functional outcomes: C7-8
Independent bed mobility and transfers, manual WC. some A with unlevel terrain
Functional outcomes: T1-9
independent with WC
Functional Outcomes T10-L1
some A-independent with functional ambulation with KAFO and lofstrands/walker
Functional outcomes: L2-S5
ambulation with KAFOs or AFOs and lofstrands/walker
Respiratory Function: C3
can ween from vent, but will require assistance coughing
Respiratory function: C5-8
some capacity for coughing
Respiratory function: T1-5
increased capacity for inhalation and coughing
Respiratory function: L1 and below
respiratory function preserved
PAradoxical breathing
Injury above T1, lack of rib stabilization by intercostals, so diaphragm pulls rib cage up and in. The chest will decrease in size with inhalation, and it will decrease the amount of air inspired.
