Flashcards in Science Deck (26):
1

Magnification

The amount of focus the microscope uses.

2

Cell wall

The wall around the side of the cell, like a barrier for the inside of the cell.

3

Specialised cell

A cell that is specialised to do a certain job, it is specialised in working in this department of an organism.

4

Resolution

To attempt to fix something, this could be in the organism or anywhere.

5

Microscope

The piece of equipment you use to look at a cell and you can get a closer look, and can see all the parts of a cell clearly. This also includes getting a closer look by turning up the focus wheel.

6

Vacuole

A storage bin for cells.

7

Cell membrane

This is the second layer of the wall like a safety barrier just to keep everything bad out of the cell.

8

Unicellular

This is when there is more than one cell.

9

Multicellular

Something that has more than one cell in an organism.

10

Slide

A piece of equipment you would use to look at a cell through a microscope. It's placed on top of the tile and underneath the cover slip and iodine.

11

Organism

There are many working cells in an organism there are organisms inside our body.

12

Cell

A cell is something that has a certain job in an organism, whether it be a nerve cell or red blood cell they all have a job. There are also animal cells and plant cells.

13

Chloroplasts

This is where the photosynthesis happens.

14

Nucleus

This part controls the cell.

15

Mitochondria

This is where the respiration happens. Respiration is where the mitochondria transfers oxygen into energy.

16

Cytoplasm

This is where chemical reactions take place.

18

Red blood cell adaptions

The red blood cells transfer oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide, they transport it to the lungs for us to exhale.

19

Nerve cell adaptions

The nerve cell sends out lots of mini signal to other parts in the organism to help them function.

20

Root hair cell adaptions

They speed up osmosis. This is because they have a large surface are.

21

Egg cell adaption

It is supposed to be fertilised by a sperm cell but it has a special cell membrane which makes sure only one sperm cell can fertilise the egg.

22

Sperm cell adaptions

It fertilises an egg cell. The head section is made of genetic information. The middle contains mitochondria to give more energy. The long tail is to help get to the egg cell.

23

Diffusion

Diffusion is where particles in an area of high concentration spread to go into an area of low concentration.

24

Rate of diffusion

The rate of diffusion is increased when: The distance is decreased, the surface area is increased and the concentration difference is increased.

25

Binary fission

This is where 1 cell splits into 2 cells. This is how bacteria is reproduced. Bacteria is reproduced quicker when given the correct conditions.

26

Specimen

This would the one of the things you could look at through a microscope as it had many cells throughout it.
