Science (endocrine system) Flashcards
(9 cards)
Function of endocrine system
Controls body functions using hormones released into the blood.
Nervous system vs endocrine system
Nervous: Fast, electrical, short-lived.
Endocrine: Slow, chemical (hormones), long-lasting.
Positive feedback system results
Results in the response going in the same direction to the stimulus.
Positive feedback system example
Contractions during childbirth.
-Stretch receptors detect the baby moving through the cervix.
Negative feedback system example
Regulation of blood glucose levels
-When blood glucose levels are too high, the body responds by storing the glucose in cells
Negative feedback system occurance
Occurs when the response is in an opposite direction to the stimulus
homeostasis meaning
body’s ability to maintain a stable internal environment despite changes in external conditions
what is endocrine system made up of?
made up of a collection ofglands
goal of positive/negative feedback
p: Amplify a response
n: restore balance
