Science Midterm G8 Flashcards
Cells and systems/Mix and Flow of Matter (26 cards)
If the solubility curve is going downwards while adding heat, what state f matter is the solute?
Gas
What is a heterogeneous mixture?
A mixture where you can see the different components of it.
What is a homogeneous mixture?
A mixture where the components are so well mixed together you can not see them individually.
which factors affect soulbility?
stirring/friction, temperature, and surface area.
How do you find the density of a fluid?
D (Density) = M (Mass) Γ· V (Volume)
What happens if the buoyant force is greater than the weight if the weight of the object?
The object will rise to the surface an float.
What does SPHAM stand for?
S: Space
P: Particles
H: Heat
A: Attraction
M: Movement
Define solubility.
The ability of a substance to dissolve in another substance
What do you call a solution that has reached the maximum amount of solute it can dissolve?
Saturated Solution

What do you call a system that compresses air to transmit power?
Pneumatic System
What is a pure substance?
Single type of matter that can not be separated into other kinds of matter by physical means. Made of one kind of atom.
What are the characteristics of living things?
1: Made up of cells
2: Take in nutrients
3: Use Energy
4: Respond/adapt to environment
5: Reproduce
6: Grow and develop
7: Produce Waste
What are the levels of organization?
Cells, Tissue, Organ, Organ System.
What did the microscope do for scientists?
Allowed them to identify the basic unit of life.
What does the nucleus do?
It controls most of the activities within the cell.
What does the mitochondria do?
Converts food into energy that the cell can use.
What does the cell membrane do?
Provides protection from the environment.
What does the vacuole do?
Used for storing food and wastes.
What does the chloroplast do?
Use light and energy to make food for the cell.
Where does the exchange of gasses take place?
The alveoli which are in the lungs.
What does the liver do?
It removes toxins from your blood while regulating blood clots and maintaining your blood sugar.
What does the pancreas do?
Produces enzymes that help with the digestion of nutrients and food.
Which organelle produces energy?
The Mitochondria.
