Science U5 L2 Critical Thinking Flashcards
(10 cards)
How might an alligator benefit from drought?
During a drought, other animals might come to the gator hole for water. These animals might become food for the gator.
What might happen to a habitat hit by a Hurricaine
The habitat might be changed or destroyed. Organisms that live in the habitat may die or move away. Salt from seawater might make it difficult for plants to grow.
If trees were not available would beavers still build dams?
Yes, they would find other resources or materials to build with.
Does a beaver harm or help the environment
Both, it harms the surrounding area by causing floods. it helps by forming dams for animals and plants to live in and attracts new wildlife like birds and butterflies
How did zebra mussels end up in the Mississippi River
It is an exotic species brought accidentally by people into the Great Lakes. They moved downriver by Ribera that connect the Great Lakes to the Gulf, including the Mississippi River.
How do exotic species sometimes outcompete native species.
Exotic species may not have many predators. they may also consume resources and reproduce faster than native species.
What happens to the plants in an ecosystem after a fire
They are forced to accommodate, move, or die.
Why are plants usually the first organisms to spread to a new area
Plants are producers. Once plants are established, they become a food source for consumers that follow them.
Why do living things become extinct. What happens when they do?
If a species cannot accommodate, to changes in its habitat, lacks food, or is unable to reproduce, it will become extinct. None will be left
What would happen to pandas If scientists did not help them have cubs
Hey would remain endangered or become extinct
