“I will honour Christmas in my heart and keep it all the year” (Stave 4)

He makes this realization after seeing his grave with the ghost of Christmas future, he is made aware of what will be with him and society if he (society) does not change his ways - darkness will fall upon the world. He vows to keep the Christmas spirit around all year.

Dickens use religious symbolism of an angel to highlight to the audience that Scrooge has truly changed an purified himself. A very religious audience would have taken this seriously.
