The Watchman radar is

medium range (60nms)

10cm single channel primary radar operating in frequency diversity in the E and F bands.

The PSR The aerial is

a double curvature and boom with 2 aerial feed horns. The main beam horn is used for transmitting and receiving and the auxiliary horn receives only

The azimuth beam width is

1.5 degrees with the nose of the beam at +3 degrees and the auxiliary beam at +7 degrees.

Both beams are circular polarised

PSR RPM / wind limits

The aerial turns at 15 RPM

Limiting wind speeds are not applicable as the aerial is enclosed in a protective radome.

Three Flight Refuelling RDS 1600 radar consoles are provided in the approach room.

Description – Cardion SSR

The Cardion SSR is mounted on the Watchman Aerial Head.

The range is dependent on the power output, which is currently set at 32.82 DBW, giving a range of 120nms.

Permanent Echoes

The known PE for checking the Watchman setting up is 033° M range 43.4 Nm.
