What is shoulder dystocia?
When the anterior shoulder of the baby becomes impacted behind the pubic bone
What are the three manoeuvres for managing shoulder dystocia?
McRobert’s - flex and externally rotate the hips to stretch symphysis and open pelvic outlet
Suprapubic pressure - to dislodge shoulder
Episiotomy
What is the success rate of one of these three manoeuvres working?
work in ~85%
What are the four advanced interventions?
Rotate anterior shoulder
Deliver posterior arm –> to reduce width
Break clavicle
This is known as the Woodscrew manoeuvre
What is the Zavanelli manoeuvre?
Push foetal head back into birth canal in anticipation of delivery via C-section
