1. Sulfur = treat seborrhea, ANTIFUNGAL, (maybe....antipruritic, antibacterial, antiparasitic). (like slime sulfur)

2. Salicylic acid- treat seborrhea disorders, ANTIFUNGAL, some antipruritic & antibacterial, keroplastic/lytic actions. CAT safe!!!

3. Coal Tar- seborrhea Oleosa

4. Benzoyl Peroxide - treat seborrhea (maybe- comedones & demadex- flushes glands, degreaser, 1st shampoo b4 treat mange)

5. Selenium sulfide- eczema, scaly, itchy rash, seborrhea, degrease, ANTIFUNGAL

Side- not for cats, discolor jewelry & stain hair coats. Mucus membranes & scrotal areas may become irritated

U- treat dermatophytosis & malassezia, Cheyletiellosis, chiggers, and mange. Demadex in cats!!!!!
In cats!!!!!!!
S- May stain porous surfaces & discolor jew & light colored fur.
Skin irritation.
Oral digestion may cause nausea & oral ulcers, esp. In cats (best to use E collar to prevent)

Gels for treating pyodermas, chin ache, & localized demodex lesions. 2x d

ANTIMICRIBIAL action

Side- don't use around eyes or mucus membranes , clients wear gloves
bleach fabrics, Jew, carpet, pet's fur

It's a topical antipruritic & antiinflammatory
Noncorticosteriod

Use- it's an astringent solution + antipruritic agent that is useful for the treatment of
superficial skin problems.
Acute moist dermatitis, fold dermatitis, + contact dermatitis.
Some doctors use it for otitis externa.
The exact manner the agent works is unknown at this time

Side- do NOT use anything that prevents evaporation of this solution from the skin.
Avoid eye contact
Wash hands after admin and wear gloves to apply

Use- cause surface + local anesthesia characteristics, which effects peripheral nerves
May b combined w/ other products 2 reduce pain+ itching
Unclear of mechanism of action

Side- avoid contact w/eyes
Not for ophthalmic use. Wear gloves 2 apply

*** products containing BETAMETHASONE should b used after other products have been tried b/e risks associated with it r greater then risks involved w/ hydrocortisone

Seborrhea
Some products have natural oils- which may help skin problem
Essential fatty acids affect arachidonic acid levels + affect production of prostaglandins, which can reduce inflammation and pruritus.
Essential oils can also help create healthy skin

Side- uncommon

Shampoos

Medicated shampoos are prescription items
Not for routine bathing
Patient should be clean prior to using the shampoo to allow contact time
Lather and let sit 5-10 min
Dips need to drip dry
Follow directions of manufacturing for diluting
