Q

Given what you know about cognitive dissonance, would a person be more or less likely to harm someone again if they harmed the same person in the past (even by accident)?

A

Unfortunately people will rationalize their behavior and more than likely continue to treat the individual poorly.

Q

How does the card game we played in class relate to romantic relationships and how people choose romantic partners?

A

In the game, you were not able to see the value of your own card, just as you aren’t able to see your value to another person unless it is verified by another person. This means we normally underestimate our value, and therefore settle for less than ideal relationships.

Q

How can searching for a partner on a dating app be dangerous?

A

Dating apps will often give you choices that are either extremely desirable and unrealistic or options that are not as desirable, as you struggle to find matches, you are either more likely to settle for a less than desirable relationship or pay for their services to help you find a more suitable match.

Be able to give an example of the representative huristic and explain why it’s a valid example.

A

Seeing someone with a southern accent and assuming they like Sweet Tea. Just because someone has a southern accent and is presumably from the south, does not mean they automatically take up all parts of southern culture such as drinking sweet tea
