Flashcards in Solubility Deck (7):
1

Solubility

g solute/L solution

2

Molarity (M)

mol solute/ L solution

3

solubility product constant

Ksp

Ksp = [products]/[reactants]

Typically, the reactants will be a solid, so they'll be left out in the solubility expression.

Remember to raise the concentration of each product to its coefficient.

4

molality (m)

moles solute/ kg solvent

Used to calculate freezing point depression and boiling point elevation

5

mole fraction

moles solute/ total moles of solute + solvent

Unitless

Used to calculate the vapor pressure of a solution

6

mass percent

mass of solute/total mass of solution (x100%)

7

parts per million (ppm)

(mass of solute/total mass of solution) x 10^6

Parts per million is NOT the number of solute molecules per million molecules. It is the mass of the solute per mass of solution times one million.
