Specific Heat Capacity (Required Practical) Flashcards
(3 cards)
1
Q
What equipment do you need?
A
A beaker, a balance, oil, thermometer, immersion heater, insulating foam, joulemeter, powerpack, timer.
2
Q
What are the steps?
A
- place beaker on balance and press zero.
- put oil in beaker and record the mass of the oil.
- put immersion heater and thermometer into oil.
- record starting temperature of the oil.
- wrap the beaker in insulating foam.
- connect joulemeter to immersion heater.
- set a timer for thirty minutes and wait.
- read number of joules of energy that passed into the immersion heater.
- read the final temperature of the oil.
3
Q
What is the equation to find specific heat capacity?
A
SHC = change in thermal energy
mass × temperature change
