و جاء على عرش مصر فراعنة يبغضون بني اسرائي بغضا شديدا
And came upon the throne of Egypt were many Pharoah’s (rulers of Egypt). They hated the Bani Israel extremely.
و جاء على عرش مصر ملك جبار جدا
And came upon the throne of Egypt, a very tyrant king.
فكان لا يرى انّ ني اسرائيل من اولاد الأنبياء و انهم من بيت يوسف ملك مصر الكريم
And he would not see the Bani Israeel from the children of prophets and that they were from the house of Yusuf (a.s) the noble king of Eypt.
بل لا يرى انهم بسر يستحقون الرحمة و الإنصاف
Rather, he would not see them to be a human who is worthy of mercy and of justice.
و جاء على عرش مصر ملك جبار جدا
And came upon the throne of Egypt, a very tyrant king
و كان يرى انّ قومه من نوع و انّ بني اسرائيل من نوع آخر
And he would see that his people (Qibtee’s) are one king and that Bani Israel are from a different kind.
القبط من نوع الملوك خلقوا ليحكمو
The Egyptians were from the royal type. They were created so that they may rule.
و بنو اسرائيل من نوع العبيد خلفوا ليخدموا
And the Bani Israel were from the slavery king. They were created so they may serve.
و كان فرعون يعامل بني اسرائيل معاملة الحمير و الدواب يستخدمها الإنسان و لا يعطيها الاّ قوت يومها
Pharoah used to treat the Bani Israel the treatment of donkeys and animals. Humans take service from the but do not give them apart from provision of the day.
و كان فرعون ملكا جبارا متكبرا لا يرى فوقه احدا
Pharoah was a proud and oppressive king. He would not see anyone above him.
و كان لا يؤمن بالله بل كان قول: فَقَالَ أَنَا رَبُّكُمُ الْأَعْلَىٰ ﴿٢٤﴾
And he would not bring belief upon Allah (s.w.t), rather he would say: ‘I am your sustainer, the most high’.
و كان مغرورا بملكه و قصوره و قوته و يقولأَلَيْسَ لِي مُلْكُ مِصْرَ وَهَٰذِهِ الْأَنْهَارُ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِي ۖ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ ﴿٥١﴾
And he was deceived by his kingdoms and his palaces and his power. And he would say: ‘Is the kingdom of Egypt not for me? And those rivers flowing underneath me. Do you not see?’
و كأنه كان خليفة لنمرود ملك بابل
It was like he was the successor of Namrood, the king of Babylon.
و كان يغضب اذا علم احدا يرى فوقه احدا
And he used to become angry when he would come to know of someone who would look towards somebody else above him.
و دعا الناس الى عبادته و السجود له و اطاعه الناس
And he called people towards his worship and towards his prostration and the people obeyed him.
و امتنع بنو اسرائيل لأنهم يؤمنون بالله و يؤمنون برسله و اشتد غضب فرعون على بني اسرائيل
And Bani Israel refrained becayse they believe in Allah (s.w.t) and believed in His Messengers (a.s). And phaorah’s anger intensified upon Bani Israel.
