What does the conch represent?
A
The conch symbolises civilisation and order, it governs the boys meetings and creates a sense of democracy as whoever holds the conch an speak. However as time goes on the conch loses its power which represents civilisation losing its grip on the boys.

What does Piggy’s glasses represent?
A
The glasses represent the power of science and intellectual endeavour, this is shown when the boys smash one of the glasses and this sends them into a more primal and less technologically advanced state.

What does the signal fire represent?
A
The signal fire represents the boys hope, how they hope to be returned to civilisation. When the fire goes low or out then the boys become more savage and less civilised.
