Wands
The suit of emotions and spiritual experience. Describes inner states, feelings, and relationship patterns.
Cups
The suit of intellect, thought, and reason. Concerns with justice, truth, and ethical principles. Also can be associated with states that lead to disharmony and unhappiness.
Swords
Suit of practicality, security, and material concerns. Here we celebrate the beauty of nature, interaction with plants and animals, and physical experience in the body. Also represents prosperity and wealth of all kinds.
Pentacles
Number that always represents positive forces. The best it’s suit has to offer
Aces
These cards present different aspects of a suit and can approach an idea from multiple angles
Middle cards (2-9)
These cards take the themes introduced by the Ace to their logical conclusions
Tens
These cards are people with personalities that reflect the qualities of their suit and rank. They show us certain ways of being in the world so that we can use (or avoid) those styles when appropriate
Court cards
Mature and masculine cards whose focus is outward on the events of life. Demonstrates authority, control, and mastery in areas associated with suit
Strong, assertive, and direct. Concerned with results and practical how-to matters
King
Mature and feminine cards that embody the qualities of the suit rather than act them out.
Focus is inward and style is relaxed and natural. Less concerned with results than with the enjoyment of just being in the world.
Associated with feelings, relationships, self expression
Queen
Immature, cannot express oneself with balance. These cards swing wildly from one extreme to another as they try to relate successfully to the world.
Prone to excess, eager and sincere. We admire the spirit and energy.
Knight
Playful child, these cards act out qualities of suit with pleasure and abandon. Approach may not be deep but it is easy, loose, spontaneous.
