An automated marketing program where a web advertiser or merchant recruits web masters to place the merchants banner ads or buttons on their own web site. Webmaster will receive a referral fee or commission from sales when the customer has clicked the affiliate link to get to the merchants web site to perform the desired action, usually make a purchase or fill out a contact form. Ex. Pay per click, pay per lead, pay per sale

More commonly used to earn a commission on the sale of products, but the model can be used to receive payment for other user actions such as requesting a demo, downloading a white paper, or filling out a contact form

CPA (cost per action)

A fixed commission is paid for each action (purchase, download, etc)

CPL (cost per lead)

A few paid for each sales lead provided

Revenue share

A percentage of the sale value is provided; often tier based
