Cartographer
a method for representing part of the surface of the earth or a celestial sphere on a plane surface
Map Projection
the misrepresentation of the area or shape of a feature
Distortion
things that are distorted
SADD (Shape, Area, Distance, Direction)
a conformal cylindrical map projection that was originally created to display accurate compass bearings for sea travel.
Mercator Projection
map presents countries in their true proportion to one another
Peters Projection
a compromise map projection showing the poles as lines rather than points and more accurately portraying high latitude lands and water to land ratio.
Robinson Projection
drawn to show Arctic and Antarctic areas.
Azimuthal (Polar) Projection
a map projection of the world on which the oceans are distorted to allow for greater accuracy in representing the continents, combining the sinusoidal and equal-area projections.
