The mosquito Flashcards
(23 cards)
Metaphor used?
Pathetic fallacy
What is pathetic fallacy
Giving human attributes/emotions to nonhuman things
High legs of mosquito
Ego, royalty
Weigh no more than air as you alight upoun me, you phantom
Weightless
What did the woman in Venice call the mosquito?
Winged Victory
Turn your head towards your tail and smile
Shows cunningness
So much devilery into that translucent phantom corpus
Fraility
What does the poet keep calling the mosquito
Queer- odd; strange
Queer, with your thin wings and streaming legs..a nothingness.
Weightless flyer
Your (..) aura, prowling and casting a numbness on my mind
EVIL aura
This is your trick, to deaden my attention in your direction
Magic powers attributed; invisibility, anaesthesia
In circles and evasions, enveloping me, Winged Victory
Evasive; prowling like predator
I hate the way you lurch off sideways into air
Having read my thoughts against you
Mind reading awareness
You speck, dull clot of air
Smallness of body
Second part of poem is
A game of unawares between Man and Mosquito
Trump card of mosquito
It’s trumpet like noise
But it sounds so amazingly like a slogan, as you snatch my scalp
Ego implied( proud of the noise it makes)
Obscenely ecstasied; sucking live blood, My blood.
Losing focus- happiness in sucking blood- Obscene
You stagger
After drinking too much blood
Only your accursed hairy fraility, your own imponderable weightlessness Saves you
Mosquito saved by its attributes as it sweeps away on a gust
Away with a paen of derision
Mockery
Am I not mosquito enough to out mosquito you?
Suspense whether man loses the game
Has killed and smeared the mosquito into nothingness
No, Man wins!
