The Spine Pg 8 Flashcards
(12 cards)
Name the areas of the Vertebral Column and give the number of each vertebrae in each section? [M1P8]
- Cervical Vertebrae [7]
- Thoracic Vert. [12]
- Lumbar Vert. [5]
- Scarum [5]
- Coccyx [4]

What seperates each of the True Vertebrae? [M1P8]
Intervertebral Discs made up of fibrocartilage which, protect against bone friction and also cushion and provide shock absorbsion through the spinal column.

What is the function of the Sacrum? [M1P8]

Its a load bearing area taking a fair bit of the upper body weight. Made up of 5 bones which are fixed with a fibrous joint where there is miminal or no movement.
What is this laymans term referred to as “The Tail Bone” [M1P8]
Coccyx
What are some of the functions of the Vertebral (Spinal) Column [M1P8]
- Protect the spinal cord ( our central nervous system)
- To absorb shock up through the body
- To allow trunk mobility, flexibility and load bearing support
- Produce blood cells
- Give the upper body its postural frame
Name the sections of the spinal column which have False/Fixed Vertebrae ? [M1P8]
- Sacrum
- Coccyx
What is the fuction of the CERVICAL VERTEBRAE? [M1P8]
To allow the neck & head to move.

What part of the Vertebral Column are the ribs attached to and how many of those vertebrae are there? [M1P8]

12 Thoracic Vertebrae
What is the number you should remember when listing of the different Vertebrae in the spine? [M1P8]
712554
What is the main function of the LUMBAR VERTEBRAE? [M1P8]
To allow the upper trunk to move (flex, extend, side bend, rotatation)

What the function of the THORACIC VERTEBRAE? [M1P8]
- to support the ribs
- to allow some ROM
ROM = Range of Movement
How many True Ribs, False Ribs, Floating Ribs are there in the Thoracic Ribcage? [M1P8]
- 7 True pairs of ribs
- 3 False pairs
- 2 Floating pairs
