Flashcards in Topic 3 - Speeding Up Deck (18):
A snail crawls 10cm in 2mins. A slug creeps 6cm in 1mins. Which is faster?
How do you calculate an objects average speed?
Average speed = distance travelled divided by time taken
A man runs 100m in 20 seconds. How fast is he running?
100 divided by 20 = 5m/s
A man runs 200m in 45s. How fast is he going?
200m divided by 45s = 4.4m/s
A car takes 0.45s to travel through the first light gate and 0.54s to travel through the next light. Is it speeding up or slowing down?
What is Issac Newton’s first law?
2 possible states of motion - stationary or constant velocity
What is Issac Newton’s second law?
The object is either slowing down or speeding up
What is constant velocity?
When an object is moving the same direction at the same speed
If a rockets thrust and the weight are the same what will happen?
It will not move because it can’t fly if the weight is the exact same as the thrust.
What do you call the force that slows things down in water?
What is air resistance?
When the air is slowing something down.
Why would it be difficult to slow down if you were an ice skater ?
You would have to apply force on the ground to stop but ice is very slippery
If a rockets force was less than its weights force what would happen ?
It would never take off
Does air resistance increase or decrease as you move faster ?
How could a racehorse increase its strength more effectively by swimming instead of galloping ?
Water is dense so it would increase its strength faster by swimming
If air is let out of a hot air balloon would its weight or upthrust change ?
It’s upthrust would decrease
Which direction does upthrust always push ?
