- outside experts and specialists can provide broader experiences
- can provide a formally recognised qualification for employees
- can be more intense without workplace distractions for both trainers and trainees.

- more expensive for the business
- may not relate directly to the exact skills required in the workplace
- employees with an externally recognised qualififcation may be tempted to leave to find a better job.

A
refers to process of providing employees with better knowledge and skills as they gain experience in the business. Therefore employees can be used to prepare and develop in order to take on greater responsibility within the business.
