political statement that the USA would help any country threatened by communism, especially through economic and military aid.
It marked the start of active US involvement in the Cold War.

Why did it happen?
A
After WWII, many countries (like Greece and Turkey) were unstable and at risk of becoming communist.
• Britain could no longer afford to support them, so Truman stepped in.
• He feared the “domino effect” — that if one country fell to communism, others nearby would too.
