5
Q

Cylinders

A

Long and rounded tube-like shapes (will make up the neck, arms, and legs in a figure drawing)

7

When two ends of a piece of fabric are bunched together and there’s extra fabric in the middle. The extra fabric forms a baggy look.

A

Occurs when a fabric is hanging loose, like at the end of a fabric sash.

Objects closest to you in an artwork; they’re in the front of the drawing/artwork.

11
Q

Foreshortening

A

Perspective drawing technique that makes things look like they’re coming off of the page; helps to give the artwork the illusion of dimension.

12
Q

Half-lock fold

A

Seen where fabric bends; example: when a knee bends, the fabric behind the knee bunches up (like on a pair of pants)

13
Q

Horizon Line

A

Horizontal line that represents the viewer’s eye level; it’s where the ground meets the sky or where the floor meets the wall in an interior scene.

Overall term that applies to anything that is drawn to look as if it’s receding into the distance; helps to give the illusion of depth in a flat artwork.

15
Q

Middleground

A

Objects in between the foreground and background in an artwork.

16
Q

Pipe Fold

A

Goes straight up and down; seen on heavier fabrics in a drawing (like curtains). It’s called a pipe fold because the shapes that it makes looks similar to pipes.

17
Q

Vanishing Point

A

A point where something that is receding in the distance completely disappears.

18
Q

Zigzag Fold

A

This fold is seen in crisp fabrics, like a pant let or sleeves that are too long.

19
Q

Spiral Fold

A

Gets its name because it wraps itself around and around, like a cylindrical form. Example: a shirt sleeve on a person, may form a spiral fold. This creates a coil effect in an artwork.
