Unit 5 Lecture 3 Flashcards
What makes up the pelvic girdle?
The pelvis and sacrum
What are the three regions of the pelvis?
Ilium, ischium, and pubis
What is the hip joint also called?
Coxal joint
What type of joint is the Coxal joint?
Ball and socket
What is the articulation of the Coxal joint?
Articulation of spherical head of femur with deep cup shaped acetabulum
What is the acetabulum lined with?
Hyaline cartilage
What does the acrtabular labrum add to?
Adds depth to joint and serve as cushion against impact of femoral head
What do Acetabular larval tears happen?
Often due to repetitive twisting or trauma
Symptoms of acetabular lab real tears
Locking or clicking in the hip, pain in the hip or groin
Treatment to acetabular labral tears
Physical therapy, NSAIDS, or surgery
What is the teres femoris also called?
Ligament of the head of the femur
What is the teres femoris?
Intracapsular ligament of the hip
What does the teres femoris provide stability to?
Provides stability from within the hip
What are the other three Coxal ligaments?
Iliofemoral ligament, ishiofenoral ligament, and pubofemoral ligament
What is the compressive force on the hip when walking?
3 to 4 BW
What is the compressive force on the hip when running?
> 5 BW
What is the compressive force on the hip when skiing downhill?
> 7 BW
Medial hip joint muscles
Adductors and gracilis
Lateral hip joint muscles
Gluteus medius and minimus
Iliopspoas origin and insertion
Origin: pelvis and lumbar spine
Insertion: femur
Action of iliopspoas
Prime mover of hip flexion and trunk lateral flexion
Pectineus origin and insertion
Origin: pelvis
Insertion: femur
Actions of pectineus
Hip adduction, flexion, and medial rotation
Rectus femoris origin and insertion
Origin: pelvis
Insertion: femur
