1947 - consolidated the armed forces, created Department of Defense (the Pentagon), NSC (Nat'l Security Council) to advise the pres.

1949 - France, GB, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, eventually the US unified into raw North Atlantic Treaty Organization (eventually included Greece, Turkey, W. Germany).
