Unit 9 Data Analysis Flashcards
Variable
anything that can change and be measured.
X-axis
the horizontal reference line in a coordinate system that represents the independent variable or quantity being measured
y-axis
the vertical axis on the Cartesian coordinate plane
scale
understanding the size of things compared to each other
bar graph
used to compare the frequency of a category or characteristic with that of another category or characteristic.
line graph
a graphical display of information that changes continuously over time
pie graph
a circle divided into a series of segments
scatter plot
a type of visual representation of data in which each set of values are plotted as an ordered pair
dependent variable
the variable being tested or measured during the experiment.
independent variable
the variable that is being changed during the experiment
line of best fit
a line through a scatter plot of data points that best expresses the relationship between those points
direct relationship
a relationship where the variables increase or decrease together
indirect relationship
the two variables vary indirectly (or inversely) to each other. This means that as one quantity goes up, the other quantity goes down.
proportional relationship
relationships between two variables where their ratios are equivalent
