Q

Some adjectives and adverbs have the same form. The only way to tell whether a word is an adjective or an adverb is to determine its use in the sentence. If it modifies a noun or a pronoun, it is an adjective. If it modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb, it is an adverb.

Adverbs are compared in exactly the same way as adjectives are compared. Some adverbs are compared by adding er or est to the positive degree. Some are compared by prefixing more or most to the positive degree. A few adverbs are compared irregularly.

Q

Errors are frequently made in the use of adjectives and adverbs. This error is commonly made after the linking verb, which requires an adjective as a complement, and not an adverb. Verb of action should be modified by adverbs, and not by adjectives.
