Q

What does the basilic vein drain?

A

Drains the anterior/medial aspect of the upper limb. The basilic vein pierces the deep fascia of the arm

15
Q

The deep fascia of the arm is connected to __________ by ___________

A

humerus, 2 fascial septa

16
Q

The deep fascia of the arm divides the arm into ___________ & ___________ compartments

A

Anterior and Posterior

-muscles, nerves, and arteries are compartmentalized via deep fascia

17
Q

The deep fascia of the arm has what clinical relevance?

A

Clinically relevant to compartmental syndromes

-increased pressure in compartment can affect circulation

18
Q

Describe the posterior and anterior compartments made by the deep/brachial fascia found throughout the arm

A

The intermuscular septa separates the anterior and posterior compartments. The this a lateral septum and a medial septum. The anterior compartment contains flexors while the posterior compartment contains extensors. The size of the compartments vary along different sections of the arm.

19
Q

What are the muscular contents of the anterior compartment of the arm?

A
  • biceps brachii m.
  • coracobrachialis m.
  • brachialis m.
20
Q

What vessels and nerves can be found in the anterior compartment of the arm?

A

Contains brachial vessels and 5 brachial plexus nerves

  • 3 motor nerves (musculocutaneous, median, and ulnar)
  • 2 cutaneous nerves ( medial brachial and medial antibrachial cutaneous) – supply skin of medial arm and forearm
21
Q

What are the components of the posterior compartment of the arm?

A

triceps brachii m. (3 heads: long, lateral, medial)
radial nerve
deep brachial artery
