Flashcards in Urinary Syndrome Deck (55):
definition of Urinary Syndrome (Lin Syndrome)
a condition of urinary dysfunction characterized by frequency, scanty or excessive urine, dribbling, pain urgency and difficulty. Pain is not always present.
What are the organs that Urinary Syndrome affects?
SP, KD, LU, BL, LV, TW, SI
What are the 6 TCM causes of painful urination?
2) Stone or Sand
Define Painful Urination w/ Heat
Common, acute, intense burning pain upon urination. Heat thought to be present in all acute cases of urinary syndrome. Damp Heat or Fire.
Define Painful Urination w/ Stone or Sand
urinary calculi or gravel, intense pain radiating, obstructed urination depending upon location of stones
Define Painful Urination w/ Qi xs and xu
Deficiency of Spleen, follows chronic Heat types poorly treated by antibiotics or very cold herbs. Dragging discomfort relieved by pressure, or a feeling of burning that is improves with warmth and pressure. Excess is Qi stagnation exacerbated by mental/emotional
Define Painful Urination w/ Blood
urination with bleeding
Define Painful Urinatoin w/ Cloudy
cloudy or milky urine
Define Painful urination with exhaustion
chronic, recurrent, initiated or aggravated by sex, overexertion, when fatigued. Incomplete or dribbling urination, lumbar pain and weakness, mild pain often worse after urination.
What are the 4 pathologies of Urinary Syndrome?
1) Dampness and Damp Heat
Common factor; internal or external; settles into lower Jiao, obstructing passages; causing pain; clouding urine. With Heat, burning urination
2) Qi Stagnation
LIV channel; TW keeping passages open and free;
Pain before urination; dysfunction; hypogastric distention
3) Qi Deficiency
Qi sinking; LU Qi def. not communicating with KID/BL
4) Kidney Deficiency
Yang: dribbling, frequency, damp. Yin: scanty, chronic
What are the 6 pathologies of urinary syndrome?
1) External Dampness
3) Excessive sexual activity
4) Old age, chronic illness
5) Emotional stress
6) Excessive lifting or standing
What are the 4 key diagnostic points for Urinary Syndrome?
1) Color of urine
4) TIming of Pain
What does the color of urine indicate in urinary syndrome?
1) Dark, concentrated:
Heat, damp heat or Yin def.
KD Yang def., SP Qi def., or Qi stagnation
3) Cloudy and murky:
Damp or Damp Heat
4) Pale pink to bright red or purple:
Bleeding due to Fire, Damp Heat, Blood stasis, KD yin def. or stones
What are the types of pain and what do they indicate in urinary syndrome?
Heat or Damp Heat (severe ‘like passing glass’) or Yin def. (mild)
2) Stabbing, localized; w or w/o blood flecks:
Blood stagnation or urinary stones
3) Mild or dragging, empty discomfort after urinating:
There are 3 different designations of frequency in urinary syndrome. What do they indicate
Frequent, urgent, concentrated:
Heat or Damp Heat
KD Yang or Qi def.
Frequent, pale, broken stream:
KD Yang def,
If you have pain during urination, are you xs or xu?
2) Before urination:
If you have pain before urination, what is your tcm etiology?
If you have pain after urination, what is your tcm etiology?
