Flashcards in Viral Diseases and Symptoms Deck (20):
NAUSEA, vomit, loss of appetite, fever, chills, Enlarged Liver, 2/3 with jaundice.
Liver Disease with Jaundice
Cirrhosis and/or Liver Cancer
Fever, blister lesions with burning pain as it enters neuron, cold sore on lips, skin or eyes.
Virus migrates to Trigeminal Nerve, lays latent there. Reactivated by sun or sensory stress
Burning pain, blisters, painful urination, painful rubbing when walking. Latent in Sacral Nerve ganglion.
lesions on skin. Latent in other ganglion.
Stored in Dorsal Ganglia. 300-500 pus filled lesions starting from scalp, face, to rest of body. Some respiratory or GI problems.
Complications: Encephalitis/Toxic Shock
Primarily Neurological with lesions. Pain, fever, headache, chills. Lesions follow specific sensory nerves, usually around waist.
Complications: Excruciating Pain syndrome, called Post Herpetic Neuralgia (PHN)
Fever, sore throat, lymphadenopathy, weakness. Enlarged spleen, enlarged liver.
Complications: RARE - spleenic rupture, neurological complications.
FEVER, hacking cough, bluish red spots inside cheeks = Koplik spots. As fever decreases, photophobia, red raised rash starts on face, then moves down and out. No itching.
Complications: Encephalitis/Pneumonia, severity based on vit A deficiency
Painful swelling of parotid salivary glands, usually bilateral, low grade fever, severe headache.
Complications: Encephalitis, ear and eye infections. Males after puberty - Orchitis... inflammation of testes with pain, edema, no swelling.
pink, flat rash, moderate fever, sore throat
Complications: Ear, eye symptoms, encephalitis. Cross placenta, damage chromosomes - death, stillborn, retardation, heart abnormalities.
Most asymptomatic. Sore throat, nausea, fever, headache. Virus then kills nerves, stiff muscle, flaccid paralysis. Death from respiratory paralysis.
Post Polio Syndrome: patients have relearned movement with weaker nerves. Now those nerves are getting worn out, causing stiffness and loss of function.
Mild fever, runny nose, wheezing, hypoxia. Hyperventilation and pulmonary edema.
Respiratory. Begins with mild flu-like fever, cough, headache. Rapidly progresses to Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome, pulmonary edema, and suffocation. Death within hours.
Warts. Plantar, genital, anal-genital, laryngeal-pharyngeal, throat.
Complications: Cervical Cancer, Throat Cancer, Congenital warts
High fever, severe pain, hemorrhaging from all orifices, internal hemorrhaging, wretching pain.
Abrupt respiratory symptoms, fever, sore throat, muscle aches, cough, headache. Fever decreases, cough increases.
Complications: Death from viral pneumonia, or secondary bacterial pneumonia. REYES syndrome from taking aspirin - Fatty Degeneration of Brain/Liver
Encephalitis - death from violent encephalitis, extreme damage to motor and autonomic nerves - paralysis. Altering stages of agitation and calm. Foam at mouth when seeing (humans thinking about) water.
