Q

What is a virus

A

A microscopic particle that can infect a host. They are primarily coated in a coat also known as a capsid and nucleic acid. They are extremely small, and have different parts

15
Q

Steps in the lytic cycle

A

Attach- absorption of phage to host cell
Enter-entry of phage/nucleic acid
Replicate- phage proteins synthesize and genetic material replicate. The host is then degraded of chromosomes
Assemble- assembles phages within host
Release- cells bursts and frees the phages

16
Q

What are prophage and lysogenic?

A

Prophage- viral DNA in host cell when infected

Lysogenic- nucleic material attaches to host DNA and emails dormant

17
Q

Know the terms bacteriophage,retrovirus,viroid,and prion

A

Bacteriophage-virus that can only affect bacteria
Retrovirus-contains reverse transcriptase
Viroid-single strand of DNA
Prion-protein molecule that causes diseases in animals

18
Q

What are the two kingdoms in bacteria?

A

Archaebacteria- extremists

Eubacteria- heterotrophs, autotrophs, saprobes
