To improve mumbai

What was the main plan based on
property development:
Dhavari would be demolished. Its location next to Mumbai’s financial district made it worth US$10 billion! Developers would buy land at a discount, and redevelop it. For every square metre of cheap housing built, they could have 30% more for offices, which are highly profitable.
High-rise blocks for slum dwellers would be built next to shopping malls, offices and luxury apartments.
Did vision mumbai work
200,00 people moved, new flats replaced slums
Piped water sewage systems installed for new flats
New trains and platforms
New measures introduced to improve air quality
Why didnt people in dvhari not like the changes
Many prefer slum improvement to demolition
New 14 storey apartment blocks have split communities
Rent costs more that in slums
Small workshops have to move out or go out of business affecting mumbais recycling industry
Why did many residents believe vision mumbai only benefits the rich and powerful
water quality in Mumbai is worsening because of sewage discharge
its beaches are unsafe for recreation
slums are growing so rapidly that improving sewage treatment and disposal in line with population growth is a long way off.
