1

What is the purpose of the Remarks column on the 2322?

To record meteorological information of importance to aviation and other users which has not been given previously. Also used to record information that cannot be entered elsewhere. Such as; wind direction variation, wind shear within 1500' above ground, RVR data, or ran out of room in column 32.

2

How is information entered in column 41

Using abbreviations authorized in MANAB or plain English words shall be used as necessary to amplify or clarify the information. Information not of direct importance to aviation and not ment for transmission shall be enclosed in brackets.

3

Priority of remarks in column 41

1. General Weather remarks, starting with "OBS TAKEN +tt" then in order of importance (Manobs 10.2.19.1 - 10.2.19.10) Also includes in-the-vicinity phenonena.

2. Snowfall

3. Rainfall

4. Hail size

5. RVR

4

How is RVR data recorded in column 41?

RVR data shall be included in hourly and speci observations. RVR shall be reported for the active, or most aligned to the wind runway(s) when reporting prevailing visibility is 1SM or less and/or RVR value for the designated runway(s) is 6000' or less.

All RVR values shall be representitive of the touchdown zone of the active landing runway(s)

Manobs 10.2.19.13

5

Format for recording RVR in column 41

eg. RVR RWY09/1600FT

If visibility is variable, add a "U" for upward trend or "D" for downward trend. If no distinct change is observed, use "N" on the end

if significantly variable;

RVR RWY09/1600V0800FT

If visibility is greater then the max value that can be addressed, "P" shall append the # of feet, eg. P1600FT

If visibilitie is lower then min reportable, "M" shall append. eg. M0600

6

When shall Contrails be noted in column 41

When they persist for 15 min or more. Rapidly dissapating contrails shall not be reported.

7

13

Can a Funnel Cloud be abbreviated (FC) in remarks?

No

14

19

What do you record when Mountain Wave Clouds are observed?

Mountain or Standing Wave Clouds shall be reported in Remarks whether or not the clouds are predominant. Remarks shall indicate their presence throughout the period they are observed.

eg. ROTOR CLDS NW or RDG LENTICULARS IN LYRS W

20

When CB's are observed what remarks must be made in column 41?

Where they were observed in relation to the point of observation, and direction they are moving.

eg. CB NE MOVG RPDLY S

21

When and how is snowfall remarked in column 41?

Newly fallen snow shall be reported in Remarks of an Hourly report if the accumulating depth of the new snow is 1cm or more (rounded) then the last rounded reported depth.
Shall be reported /Sss/ ("S" for snow, "ss" two digit depth in whole cm)

eg. measured snowfall since last report = 0.7cm, in remarks /S01/

ref. W09 pg 23

22

When and how is Rainfall remarked in column 41?

Newly fallen rain shall be reported in Remarks of an Hourly report if the accumulation of the rain is 10mm or more (rounded to nearest mm) then the last rounded reported accumulation.
Shall be reported /Rrr/ ("R" for rain, "rr" two digit accumulation in mm)

eg. measured accumulation of rain since last report = 9.8mm, in remarks /R10/

ref. W09 pg 25

23

When Hail is observed, what goes in Remarks?

The average size of the hail shall be estimated and recorded in column 41 in whole mm.

eg. HAIL DIAM 09 MM

24

If weather obs taken either early or late, what must go in Remarks?

OBS TAKEN + tt (tt = minutes)

minutes are number of minutes either before or after the hour in which the Barometer was read.

eg. Barometer read 18min past the hour;

OBS TAKEN +18
