An environment that is safe for people where there is no assault, challenge or denial or their identity and what they need.
What influences or perception of disease, illness and sickness
Culture. All cultures have beliefs on disease causation (punishment for sins, evil spirits, certain behaviour) and all cultures have beliefs which can harm health.
The role to which those who are ill are expected to conform. Has rights and responsibilities
Individuals experience of disease or their response to symptoms. Relates to a set of symptoms known only to the individual
Syndrome involving clinically identifiable signs and symptoms from an underlying pathology.
Social or functional model of health
Illness is a social construct. Health or ill-health is based on functional capacity within society regardless of physical state. Social factors are illness inducing. Defines the health system.
Psychological (stress) model.
Relies on self identification by an individual as healthy or unhealthy. Focus on stress as the production of ill health.
6 steps to the patient centred clinical method.

Family, employment, housing, financial security, education, leisure, social support
Community economics, healthcare system, geography, interaction with broader society
When a health provider overlooks the context of an individual patient that is essential to managing their problem.
