Flashcards in Week 6 Deck (12):
What are 4 things used to design elec HW?
Mech HW? (3)
PCB, Arduino, FPGA, Rasberry Pi
Connections, enclosures, moving components
What are 5 HW design principles?
Simplicity through consistency and standards
Smaller, faster, mobile better
HW and SW provide seamless feel
Should work long term
What is a PCB?
Board to mount and connect components
What are the 5 steps of PCB design?
1. Schematic Design (the circuit)
3. Ordering the parts
4. Manufacturing and testing board
5. Soldering components on and testing
What are some PCB design guidelines?
Organized and logical
Group related items, use comments, draw short traces in the least number of layers
How does soldering work? Why is flux used?
After being exposed to air, it oxidizes and insulates against heat
Flux prevents rapid oxidation
What is arduino?
Micro chip that needs to be programmed
Rapid prototyping tool
What is raspberry pi?
Single board computer
Linux based OS
used in robotics etc (since there’s an OS, can run more complicated Algs for AI)
Field programmable gate array
Programmable and flexible
Can design entire circuit
What is 3D printed used for? Requires?
CAD model and must sand and smooth
Take a rigid structure and molten material that hardens
Usually two separate halves of an object
