What we see Flashcards

What is a filter and how does it work?
A filter is something (usually a colored piece of plastic or glass) that lets only certain colors of light pass through and blocks or absorbs the rest. Ex. If looking at a red filter, you can clearly be able to see red, as it lets in red objects, but fi you try to look at any other colour, it will absorb the rest not allowing you to see any other colour.
How do we see light?
We see because light reflects off objects and enters our eyes. The reflected light passes through the cornea, pupil, and lens, which focuses it onto the retina. The retina contains rod cells (for dim light and black and white) and cone cells (for bright light and color). Objects reflect certain wavelengths of light and absorb others — the color we see is the light that is reflected into our eyes. The brain processes this information so we can understand what we’re seeing.
