It is a natural and renewable source

Why is it improtant to replant Timber
It is important because it can keep resources for future generations and habitats for wildlife
What do Softwoods have in common
They have needle like leaves, do not loose their leaves in the winter, they have cones, they take about 30 years to grow and are ideal for general construction work.
What are the properties of Softwoods
Fairly strong, easily workable, relatively hard and tough but not as hard as Hardwood. Can be knotty, good for DIY, relatively cheap, good to paint.
What do Hardwoods have in common
They have flat leaves, they loose their leaves during winter, they have flowers which are used for Pollination. They are useful for construction work, It is also very strong because the grain is tight.
What are the properties of Hardwoods
Used for workshop tools, childrens building blocks and quality hard wearing furniture
What is Balsa
It is a very soft Hardwood, which is used for model making
