Healing by primary intention means what?
Edges of a surgical incision-clean. Fully approximated and stay approximated. Heals quickly
Healing by secondary intention means?
Wounds that are left open - not fully approximated- and are allowed to heal through scar formation.
What does healing by tertiary intention mean?
Mixture of primary and secondary.
A surgical wound is left open for 3 to 5 days to allow edema and/or infection to diminish and then closed with sutures or staples.
Name for a wound that is black/brown and what that indicates?
Eschar
Means there is full-thickness disuse destruction.
Black typically represents necrotic tissue.
Name for a wound that is yellow and what that indicates?
Slough
Indicates no viable tissue and/or the presence of infection.
Slough tissue may appear yellow, cream, or gray (in cases of drainage)
Name for a wound that is red and what that indicates?
Granulation.
indicates that granulations occurring and the color is from the increasing amount of new blood vessels.
What to use high pressure wound cleaning techniques?
Necrotic

Mod/large amount of exudate
What is exudate?
a mass of cells and fluid that has seeped out of blood vessels or an organ, especially in inflammation.
