Wound healing Flashcards

1
Q

Systemic factors affecting wound healing

A
  1. Age of patient, gender
  2. Circulatory status
  3. Nutrition
    • zinc, vitamin Cetc are essential in wound healing
  4. Metabolic status
    • Patients with DM and hypothyroidism have poor would healing
  5. Hormones
  6. Medication (Glucocorticoid steroids, NSAIDs, chemotherapy)

Q

Process of scar formation

A

hemostasis and inflammation → granulation tissue (vascular connective tissue composed of vascular capillaries, fibroblasts/myofibroblasts and a mixture of inflammatory cells) → collagen synthesis and deposition (leading to wound contraction) →remodelling→ scar formation

Q

angiogenesis

A
  1. migration of endothelial cells towards area of tissue injury
  2. endothelial cells divide to form solid sprouts
  3. sprouts develop a lumen by fusion of intracytoplasmic vacuoles containing RBCs
  4. formation of blood vessels (capillaries)
  5. vessels (capillaries) join to form an arborizing vascular network
