About PNP on Brainscape

What is a PNP?

Pediatric nurse practitioners (PNP) are advanced practice registered nurses. They are nurses who have a graduate-level education, in addition, to clinical training in pediatric medicine. Just like doctors, many PNP’s are qualified to prescribe medications.

PNP’s work may work in clinics, schools, and physician offices, providing health services aimed at children. Much of the work is preventative and includes:

Treatment of common illnesses

Childhood immunizations

Developmental screenings

Well-child exams

School physicals

Medication prescriptions

Check out the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and also the Association of Faculties of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners for more information. Or check out A Day in the Life of Nurse Practitioner Heidi Jennrich.
