What are the 4 restrictions for using هاذ?
- Something has to exist (Ismul ishara
- Has to be something singular - e.g., object , human etc.
- Something that is close by
- For males and masculine things - we know this simply if it is not female
What does a ة (ta marbuta) show about a word?
Shows it is feminine
How is هاذ altered to make it feminine?
How is this different to هاذ? (Restrictions)
To make it feminine, you say هاذهي (haa thihee)
It has the same first 3 restrictions as هاذ, and the last one is just switched to feminine words
What happens when you add a tanween at the end of a word? (an, in, un)
The nature of the word is unknown (نكر - nakira)
E.g., هاذ بيت (haa thaa baitun)
- it can be ANY house
- it is unrestricted
What is Hamzatul Istifhaam?
When you add an ا to something, making it a question
E.g., هاذ becomes اهاذ
- From “this (is)” to “is this”
- The answer always has to be yes or no

It is used for irrational things
What does من (man) mean? Give an example of use
When is it used?
“Who” من هاذ - who is this?
- It is used for rational things, e.g., humans, angels & jins
- Masculine
