In modern life we are surrounded by technology which controls many machines and everyday objects. Control technology is used to:
* Operate systems, e.g. traffic lights
* Control actions, e.g. a robot’s movement
* Control manufacturing devices, e.g. laser cutters.
Computers follow instructions or sequences programmed into them. A flowchart can be used to help design a sequence. Sensors are used to measure physical quantities such as temperature, light, pressure, sound, and humidity. They send signals to the processor. There are many items within our homes that use control systems. These include:
* Electric kettles, Washing machines, etc
The data collected by a sensor needs to be converted into a format the computer can understand. This is done by an Analogue to Digital Convertor (ADC)
