Wild ginger

  • Hedychium gardnerianum*
  • Study tip**

Half a clue to ID’ing this is in the appearance of the leaf and how it looks a little wilted like a slice of pickled ginger is, none of the other invasives leaves have this kind of appearance, not atleast in this test.

A

Himalayan honeysuckle

Leycesteria formosa

Study tip*

Honey suckle has a very distinctive appearance compared to the other weeds.

Japanese honeysuckle is mostly white in appearance as is the Japanese flag, so by process of elimination the mostly purple coloured one is the Himalayan species.

A

Banana passionfruit

Passiflora supersect

A

Glyceria Reed

Glyceria maxima

Study tip*

The only other ‘reedy’ looking weed here is the pampas but that identifies itself with the big old floof on the top, so if you can remember ‘Glyceria’ and that this looks like a reed then it’s easy to remeber!
