What is intelligence? What did Binet & Simon, Terman, Eysenck, Sattler, and Weschler say about intelligence?

A

Collection of cognitive processes.
Binet & Simon: Judge, understand, reason

Q

What are the 3 principles of cognition according to Spearman’s G?

A

1) Understanding
2) You’ve figured out that there’s a relationship between 2 things
3) You’ve figured out that relationships are related (correlation)

Q

What are some examples of supplemental scales? Why would you ever use a supplemental scale?

A

Perceptual reasoning (picture completion), working memory (letter-number sequencing), processing speed (cancellation).

Only use if something went wrong during administration…eg. someone walked into the room.

Q

What are projective tests? How does meaning play into this?

A

These tests are ambiguous, there is no meaning to them because the stimuli has no meaning. This means that anything the person says reflects their personality

17
Q

What are some examples of projective tests?

A

Association, construction, completion, arrangement/selection, expression.

18
Q

What are self-report measures? What do they assess?

A

You just hand them to the person and they’re responsible for thinking of and interpreting the questions, can’t usually ask for clarification.

They assess personality, symptoms, attitudes, behaviors, emotional experiences, abilities and aptitudes, etc.
