Because they were very influential, and made lots of resources and natural goods

It expanded trade routes, and blocked out invaders. Han Dynasty from 200BCE to 200CE
What happens after Han Dynasty and China’s civil war?
China was not unified for a long time
Who took over and fixed China after being unified for so long? What did they do?
The Song Dynasty(900-1279CE). They expanded trade and dominated Asia. This was their Golden Age
What did the Song Dynasty build and for whom was it built for?
Built an organized beauraracy for Confucius bc he believed in Meritocracy
What is meritocracy?
Qualified people were eligible for good government jobs
What was the civil service exam?
Men would prove they were qualified for careers in government
What was the scholar gentry?
In a class of young male scholars, who trained for the civil service exam 
Who were main three countries that imitated Confucius’s beliefs and ideas?
Vietnam, Korea, and Japan
What does hierarchy effect women in China?
Women often had to look up to men because they were higher in the social class, which developed the idea of patriarchy
What is Filial Piety?
Children must respect their parents, and care for them when they get old
Where was Buddhism originally from? Where did it move to and why?
Originated in India, and spread into China bc it provided charity for women + poor
What was the original form of Buddhism but what form of Buddhism became popular in China?
Theravada Buddhism was the original form of Buddhism, but bc China was not achieving enlightenment (Nirvana), Mahayana Buddhism became popular
What is Neo-Confucianism? And What led up to it?
Buddhism became very popular in China and there were too many people who believed in this religion to get rid of the idea of neo Confucianism allowed to belief system. People could either practice, Confucianism, and Buddhism or both.
What is the Tribute System?
Another religion with bow and pledge loyalty to the Chinese emperor by giving a gift in order to be allowed to trade
