1.14 CHALLENEGES INFLUENCING DESIGNING Flashcards
What factors do designers need to consider when creating and manufacturing a product?
THEY SHOULD CONSIDER:
ethnic impacts
social impacts
economic impacts
green design
life cycle analysis (LCA)
Human capabilities
Sustainability
Carbon offset
Recycling
Material cost
Capability of manufacturing
What is green design and why should manufactures take it into account
materials need to be ecofriendly
practices in making it are eco friendly
What does it mean to consider manufacturing capabilities?
Basically understanding that you are not some big god and with a wave of your hand you can make anything
you need to understand that your ability to manufacture depends on:
size of your plant/factory
size and weight of product
how good ya tools are
what do companies need to keep in mind when cutting costs
compromising the ability of the product
consider whether certain parts are just for show or actually are useful
what is human capability and why does it matter
human capability refers to basically the smartness of people to understand your product
old age and illness can affect our cognitive ability
so products for older people and very young people need to be simple.
Not too many knobs and buttons and a simple UI
What are the stages of life cycle analysis
Extracting raw material
processing this material into a usable form
manufacturing the product
distributing it to retailers
customer uses it
repair and maintenance of it
they eventually dispose of it.
