Neural tube

Classification of nuclei

A

Divided by sulcus terminalis into two part

1) alar - sensory - Posterior —⟩ lateral
2) Basal - motor - Anterior —⟩ medial

Classification
> Efferent
- general somatic efferent
- general visceral efferent
- special visceral efferent

Q

Efferent

A

1) general somatic - motor supply to somatic origin
- head and neck muscles derived from somites
- extraoricular muscle - 3,4,6
- tongue muscle - 12
- diaphragm - phrenic nerve

> Nucleus present in GSE - 3,4,6,12

Special visceral efferent - motor supply to pharyngeal arch

  • mandibular 5th nerve
  • glossopharyngeal
  • Fascial
  • superior and recurrent laryngeal - 10 th nerve

GLOSSOPHARYNGEAL AND LARYNGEAL NERVE HAS NUCLEUS AMBIGUOUS

General visceral efferent - parasympathetic column

  • INFERIOR SALIVATORY —⟩ 9 th nerve —⟩ nucleus otic —⟩ parotid ganglion
  • SUPERIOR SALIVATORY —⟩ 7th Nerve —⟩ submandibular ganglion —⟩ submandibular and sublingual
  • LACRIMATORY NUCLEUS ( caudal part of superior SALIVATORY nucleus) —⟩ 7th Nerve —⟩ lacrimal, nasal, palatal
  • edinger westphal nucleus —⟩ 3rd nerve —⟩ ciliary ganglion —⟩ Spincter pupillae
  • Dorsal nucleus of vagus - lung, heart, foregut, midgut
