  • Allows for progress to be measured over time
  • Attention focus on those with low development

Cons of HDI

A
  • Distribution of income? - could use the IHDI + lorenz curve/ gini coefficient
  • Arbitrary weighting -> allocation of resources
  • Freedom and choice not measured
  • Other factors – crime, poverty – could use multi-dimensional poverty index, pollution, corruption.
