1.2 Respiration Flashcards
1
Q
Aerobic Respiration
A
This is respiration in the presence of oxygen and takes place at a cellular level.
Equation:
Oxygen + Glucose = Carbon dioxide + Water + ATP
2
Q
Anaerobic Respiration
A
This is respiration in the absence of oxygen and takes place at a cellular level.
Equation:
Glucose = Lactic acid + ATP
3
Q
Difference in ATP
A
Anaerobic respiration produces less ATP per molecule of glucose than aerobic respiration as there is an incomplete breakdown of glucose.
4
Q
Mucus and Cilia
A
Mucus traps microbes and prevents them from entering the respiratory system. Cilia wafts this mucus away.
5
Q
Bell jar Model
A
This model demonstrates inspiration and expiration of the lungs but has some limitations.
